My brother Don and Lenny met when doing national service in the army. They became instant friends from day one. My brother Don brought Lenny to our house in Brograve Road, Tottenham. My first impression of Lenny was his smiling face which remained with him fir as long as i knew him. I never saw him without a smile or laughing out loud.
A couple of times Lenny stayed over night with us and Don used to stay with Lenny in Shoreditch. Don had an additional interest - Lenny’s sister Rosemarie - who Don married.
Don bought a van and brought Lenny home in it. They took it to the ‘green’ (Tottenham Hale Station now). They spent the day cleaning and polishing the van. When the van was done they took me over to Epping forest, I was about 8 years old, Ive remembered it to this day.
Len played with Don for Hale United Football team when they came home at weekends. Lenny was a great footballer who played for Eton Manor Hackney before he went into the army.
My fond memories of those early years, when the pressures of life were easy, always flooded back whenever I saw Lenny and his smile.
